AFTER RETIRING FROM THE TELECOM DEPT. IN 1999 I HAD BEEN STAYING IN A NON-CGHS AREA. AND FOR YOUR INFORMATION I HAD BEEN STAYING IN NON-CGHS AREA WHILE ON JOB AT TELECOM DEPT. THEREBY I HAD NEVER BEEN A BENEFICIARY OF THE CGHS. RIGHT NOW I HAVE BEEN STAYING IN KOLKATA, I HAD GONE TO THE CGHS OFFICE TO SUBMIT THE REQUIRED FORM. BUT SURPRISINGLY I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS NO PROVISION FOR THE ERSTWHILE TELECOM EMPLOYEES AND THE PENSIONERS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO BECOME A BENEFICIARY OF THE CGHS, BECAUSE THE TELECOM AUTHORITY HAVE THEIR OWN SET-UP AND THEREBY THEY HAVE WITHDRAWN FROM THE CGHS. AND THAT IS WHY, ACCORDING TO AN OFFICIAL OF THE CGHS KOLKATA, I AM NOT ELLIGIBLE TO BECOME A BENIFICIARY OF THE CGHS. IN SUCH CIRCUMSTANCES KINDLY LET ME KNOW WHAT SHOULD I DO TO GET THE BENEFITS FROM THE CGHS ?

CGHS doesn’t include the facility for the treatment of the cases such as Rheumatology, scleroderma, arthritis. And the reputed hospitals such as Fortis – Vasantkunj (Dr. Ashok Kumar), Max Hospitals – Saket and Panchseel Marg (Dr Prasan Deep Rath) are experts in rheumatology. but these hospitals are not covered under CGHS panel. I asked the hospital staff and they replied that they are not covered under CGHS panel, and the CGHS panelled hospitals replied that CGHS doesn’t covers rheumatology treatment.

Then, How can I get treatment for rheumatalogy.

Please suggest, as this is a very severe disease and the treatment is little expensive.

    Hello Ms. Anu,

My father is a central excise and customs department employee retired in January 2017, he worked in Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh) and is also currently residing in Tirupati. We noted that in the website https://cghsonline.in/eligibility-criteria-at-cghs/ under the category “People who are not Eligible for facilities under CGHS” 4. Central Government Employees who live in cities not covered under CGHS. Does this mean my father is not eligible for CGHS? Earlier we were planning to apply for CGHS in Chennai (~150 kms away from Tirupati). Is it possible to apply at Chennai? Also, is there a time limit post retirement date with in which we have to apply for CGHS scheme?
